Recorded as Lefuenes in the Domesday Book, the friendly village of Levens was formerly known as Beathwaite Green until the Parish was created in Covering a swathe of the Lyth Valley, famed for its pretty damson trees, between the Rivers Gilpin and Kent, the Parish includes Levens Hall, pasture farming, woodland and low fells. Rising above this Tudor estate is a grey stone Elizabethan mansion with its great square pele tower. Soon after he came to live at Levens Hall in , Colonel Grahme commissioned Monsieur Guillaume Beaumont to reconstruct the garden and park. By together, with incredible topiary, they had made Levens an object of admiration and amazement.

  There has been a house on the site of Levens Hall in Westmorland (now Cumbria) since at least the mid 14th century, but the house as it exists today is essentially the creation of three later owners: James Bellingham (), who largely rebuilt the main block and created the principal interiors; Col.
